Residents are being warned to prepare for hazardous conditions as significant freezing rain is expected to move into the region this afternoon and continue into early Monday morning.
Environment officials say freezing rain will lead to icy and slippery surfaces, with ice accretion of five to 15 millimetres possible on some roads, walkways and other surfaces.
The freezing rain is forecast to begin this afternoon and persist overnight. It may briefly transition to rain Monday morning as temperatures are expected to rise just above the freezing mark.
Road conditions are expected to deteriorate as ice accumulates, making travel difficult. Prolonged power outages are also possible, along with damage to property, including buildings and trees, due to the weight of the ice.
Motorists and pedestrians are urged to exercise caution and adjust travel plans where possible as conditions worsen.
