Northumberland Hills Hospital welcomed its first baby of the New Year just two minutes into 2026.
A baby girl named Emma was born at 12:02 a.m. on January 1 to Port Hope parents Hayley Boivin and Nate Hladysh. Emma weighed six pounds seven ounces, measured 19 inches long, and is the couple’s first child.
Hayley says the family suspected their daughter might arrive early but realized as the day unfolded that she could be a New Year’s baby. She thanked the medical team at Northumberland Hills Hospital, including physicians, anesthesiology support, and nursing staff, for their care and attentiveness during the delivery.
As part of a long-standing hospital tradition, Emma will head home with a personalized gift basket prepared and donated by hospital staff and volunteers. Members of the Maternal and Child Care team carefully selected items they felt new parents would find useful and comforting. The initiative is supported by Northumberland Hills Hospital, the NHH Foundation, and the NHH Auxiliary.
Northumberland Hills Hospital’s Maternal and Child Care unit supports more than 500 births annually through partnerships with obstetricians, family physicians, anesthesiologists, and midwives across the region. The unit features private labour and delivery suites, a dedicated Caesarean-section operating room, and advanced monitoring equipment.
New in January 2026, the hospital is also launching a Newborn, Perinatal and Reproductive Care Clinic to provide in-hospital, non-urgent services supporting women’s wellness and newborn health throughout pregnancy and postpartum care.
