An inmate at Warkworth Institution has been charged after an investigation into drugs at the correctional facility, says Northumberland OPP.
Back on Oct. 3, 2025, police said they received a report after about 15 grams of suspected illicit drugs were allegedly seized by a correctional officer in a cell area.
Following an investigation, police said a warrant was issued and on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, an individual was charged.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 51-year-old inmate at Warkworth Institution was charged with trafficking in a schedule I substance – methamphetamines.
This charge has not been proven in court. On Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2026, police said the accused was held to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
In the Jan. 7 release on the investigation, officials also said that OPP and Correctional Service Canada (CSC) continue to work closely together to maintain the safety and security of correctional institutions and surrounding communities and enforce applicable laws.
