A 53-year-old Belleville man wanted on committal warrants was allegedly found hiding in a trunk and in possession of cocaine after a traffic stop, say police.
On Tuesday, Jan. 13, 20256, at about 2:50 a.m., the Belleville Police Service said officers observed a vehicle driving in the city’s east end associated with a man known to be wanted on committal warrants.
A woman was reportedly driving the vehicle with a man in a passenger’s seat and police initiated a traffic stop.
Meanwhile, after approaching the vehicle, officers said they seen a man hiding in the trunk, who was subsequently identified and arrested on the outstanding committal warrants, reported police.
During the arrest, officers alleged cocaine was found in the man’s jacket pocket.
As a result of the investigation, police said the 53-year-old Belleville man was charged with possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine.
This charge has not been proven in court. The accused was released on an undertaking with a scheduled court date in March.
