The Northumberland PACE Speakers Series is launching its 2026 season with an engaging virtual conversation titled “Mood, Metabolism, Immunity: Meet the Microbes Behind It All,” presented by naturopathic doctor Dr. Barbara Weiss.
Set for Thursday, February 26 at 5:30 p.m. on Zoom, this free one-hour virtual talk will explore the powerful role that microorganisms living in and on the human body play in digestion, immune system function and even mood. Dr. Weiss brings more than two decades of clinical experience and education to the topic, helping translate scientific concepts into practical insights that attendees can use to support their overall health.
Northumberland PACE – which stands for Personalized Assessment and Change Education – is a speakers series created through a collaboration of community health partners, including Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH), the NHH Foundation, the Northumberland Family Health Team, Community Health Centres of Northumberland, internal medicine specialists IMCare, Community Care Northumberland and the Ontario Health Team of Northumberland. Since its launch in 2018, PACE has offered free public education sessions on a wide variety of health and wellness topics, all formatted as 30-minute talks followed by a 20-minute interactive question-and-answer session.
The talk on microbes and health is part of a broader lineup of monthly virtual events planned through the 2026 season, each designed to help local residents better understand key aspects of physical and mental wellbeing. Registration is available in advance, and attendees are encouraged to sign up early to reserve their spot. Questions from the audience are welcomed during the live Q&A portion of the session.
