Lakefront Utilities now says it’s dealing with three water main breaks and is calling on residents in the King Street West, Robertson and Ontario streets and Toronto Road areas in Colborne to stop all water usage immediately.
As previously reported earlier this morning (Friday, Jan. 30) this is also the area where crews are battling a significant blaze at a county apartment complex at 8 King St. W. and the breaks and severe cold have been compounding challenges for more than 30 firefighters at the scene.
In an updated alert from the utility company, officials asked residents on these streets to “stop all water usage immediately.”
“A water fill station is available at the Keeler Centre for those impacted,” added officials.
In response to MBC inquiries, a spokesperson could not provide further details surrounding a timeline for restoration but did encourage residents to in the event of a worst-case scenario prepare a 72-hour emergency kit.
Meanwhile, all other residents on municipal water are also being asked to limit usage until further notice to maintain system capacity.
Officials are thanking residents for their co-operation and understanding as crews continue to work through difficult circumstances in downtown Colborne.
