Good news for animal lovers in Northumberland as PrimRose Donkey Sanctuary launches a community campaign to build a dedicated safe oasis for two blind miniature donkeys, Daisy and Sally.
The bonded pair arrived at the sanctuary last year and have unique needs because they are both fully blind. Sanctuary founder Sheila Burns says they require a consistent, obstacle free environment where they can safely move, graze, and receive care without being transported.
The project will be built on newly acquired property across the road from the main sanctuary and will include a fully enclosed paddock, four season shelter, and on site hydro and water access.
Burns says the goal is to provide long term comfort and stability. Donkeys at the sanctuary can live up to 50 years, and Daisy and Sally could have decades ahead of them in a purpose built, low stress setting.
In addition to donations, the sanctuary is also calling for more volunteers to help with daily operations and animal care.
Supporters can donate through the sanctuary website or reach out directly to get involved and help build Daisy and Sally’s new safe home.
PrimRose Donkey Sanctuary is a Northumberland based animal rescue dedicated to providing lifelong care for neglected, surrendered, and at risk donkeys. Founded by Sheila Burns, the sanctuary focuses on rehabilitation, safe housing, and specialized support for animals with medical or behavioral needs. Over the years, it has grown through community support into a recognized local refuge where donkeys receive long term protection, daily care, and enriched living environments.
