One of the region’s most anticipated fundraising events is officially back on the calendar.
Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre Foundation has announced the 7th Annual Handbags for Hospice will take place Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre. Tickets go on sale Thursday, February 19, at a cost of $125 each and will be available online at handbagsforhospice.ca.
The annual event is a major fundraiser supporting hospice care services delivered by Ed’s House, including volunteer hospice support, in-home visiting hospice, education programs, grief and bereavement services, counselling, and end-of-life care in the hospice’s 10-suite residence. All services are provided at no cost to the families who need them.
Organizers say this year’s Handbags for Hospice offers a refreshed experience while keeping popular elements guests look forward to, including prize draws, mystery bags, auctions, and social activities. A new online bidding platform will allow guests to browse and bid on silent auction items directly from their phones throughout the evening.
The event will also feature a special fundraising segment known as the “Gift from the Heart,” led by professional auction host Layne, who is recognized for creating high-energy, community-focused fundraising experiences.
Foundation officials encourage residents to save the date and purchase tickets early, noting the event regularly sells out. Sponsorship opportunities are still available for businesses and individuals interested in supporting hospice care in Northumberland County.
