Lakelands Public Health is responding to a cybersecurity incident, which has affected some of its internal systems.
The health unit says it is sharing the information about the January 29th discovery proactively to maintain transparency and public trust.
Officials say immediate steps were taken to secure systems, and incident response protocols were activated. A leading cybersecurity firm has been engaged to assist with the investigation, containment, and recovery efforts.
Some programs and services may experience temporary disruptions as restoration work continues, and affected individuals and partners will be contacted directly. Based on current information, systems managing infectious disease and clinical appointments — including immunization and sexual health services — have not been impacted.
“Our priority response to this event is protecting the information entrusted to us and maintaining continuity of critical public health services,” said Dr. Thomas Piggott, Medical Officer of Health and CEO of Lakelands Public Health. He added that the health unit is working diligently with specialized experts to restore systems safely and keep the community informed.
The investigation remains ongoing. Lakelands Public Health says it is taking all necessary steps to protect personal information and restore public health services, and will notify any individuals if personal or health information is found to be affected. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
