Brighton council is back in action Tuesday, Feb. 17 and there is lots to tackle.
Here’s a quick look at what’s on the agenda:
David Forsyth, a Telephone Road resident, is urging council to consider installing “no heavy truck” signage in the area and calling for action as the area has long been an area of concern during Hwy. 401 shutdowns and people not following emergency detour routes.
Forsyth has cited safety, environmental and infrastructure concerns and more in his delegation notes to council.
Staff is recommending council back an ask and help with installation of a downtown banner student art initiative following a request from the Brian Todd Memorial Community Fund.
There’s a proposal coming to update the municipality’s election sign bylaw with a few changes ahead of the Oct. 26 election. Staff don’t detail any additional costs to the community for the proposed changes. The proposal mostly centres on definitions, although one of the changes does propose the introduction of a maximum height for signs to ensure consistency and safety.
CAO Elana Arthurs will deliver her regular ongoing capital projects report.
Coun. Jeff Wheeldon, backed by Coun. Hannah MacAusland, has put forward a notice of motion around a Northumberland County food policy.
Council is also being asked to back several resolutions like the Ontario One Call’s unified mapping initiative and the County of Prince Edward’s resolution around support for Bill 21, the Protect Our Food Act.
And the Presqu’ile Pirates Hockey Club is calling on council to reduce ice rental fees for a year-end tourney in March, which is used as a fundraiser.
