Quinte West OPP is reminding residents that calling 911 means you’re in an emergency situation.
When to call 911? Well, that means you need immediate help from police, fire or paramedics and are in emergency.
“Call 911 when someone’s health, safety or property is in imminent danger – such as for chest pain, difficulty breathing, serious collisions, crimes in-progress or fires,” say police.
But for all other non-urgent police matters, OPP is urging residents to contact dispatch, which is accessible 24/7 by calling OPP’s non-urgent line at 1-888-310-1122.
The Quinte West OPP Detachment can also be reached for non-emergencies directly at 613-393-3561 and a member of the service will direct calls appropriately, say police.
Police are reminding residents that when you call 911 and you are not in an emergency situation you are taking away critical time from someone who is in need of immediate help.
