Cobourg and area are hosting the OFSAA A and AA girls hockey championship beginning today, with tournament play running through Thursday afternoon, March 26.
St. Mary Catholic Secondary School is the host school, with more than 400 athletes expected in the community for the provincial championship, according to the Town of Cobourg. Games are being played at three local venues: the Cobourg Community Centre, Jack Burger Sports Complex, and Baltimore Recreation Centre.
For St. Mary, the round robin schedule began Tuesday, March 24 at 10 a.m. with a win against St. Mark HS. The Thunder are back on the ice at 2 p.m. in Baltimore against Georgian Bay DSS, then wrap up round robin play Wednesday, March 25 at 10 a.m. against E.S.C. Theriault at the Cobourg Community Centre Bowl.
Quarterfinals are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon, followed by semifinals, bronze and gold medal games on Thursday, with the championship final set for 1 p.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre Bowl.
The Town says spectator passes are available on site through volunteers in blue. A day pass is $10, a tournament pass is $20, and children under 12 are free.
Residents should also note the walking track at the Cobourg Community Centre is closed March 24 to 26 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and reopens each day at 4 p.m.
