Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board trustees have reviewed enrolment projections and ongoing planning for the 2026-27 budget during a meeting held March 30.
Trustees, sitting as the board’s budget committee, examined early estimates that show a modest decline in student enrolment for the upcoming school year.
Board administration projects total enrolment will reach 34,946 students, representing a year-over-year decrease of 303 elementary students and 136 secondary students.
Officials note enrolment levels directly impact provincial funding, which is largely determined based on student numbers.
As part of the budget development process, the board says it continues to review all areas of operation to identify efficiencies while working toward a balanced budget.
Board officials say the goal is to ensure that available funding is directed to priority areas, particularly classroom supports and student services.
The board says balancing fiscal responsibility with maintaining programs that support student success remains a key focus throughout the process.
Additional budget committee meetings are scheduled for April 27, May 21, May 25, and June 1 as trustees continue discussions leading up to final budget approval.
