Those who serve as the heartbeat of the community will be in the spotlight coming up on April 23 in Brighton.
Brighton’s volunteer recognition event is set for April 23 at the Owen Gibb Community Hall inside the King Edward Park Community Centre – and Mayor Brian Ostrander is encouraging Brightonians to come together for the celebration and to honour volunteers.
“Our volunteers are the heart of the Brighton community, giving their time, energy and compassion to make our municipality a better place for everyone.” said Ostrander. “This event is an opportunity to come together, celebrate their outstanding contributions, and recognize excellence through the Community Service Excellence Award.
“I encourage all volunteers to join us for an evening of appreciation, connection and well-deserved recognition.”
The big highlight of the evening will be the 2026 Community Service Excellence Award, which recognizes Brightonians who’ve made a significant impact in the community. However, to further acknowledge and celebrate the mighty group of volunteers locally, Spirit of Service Awards will also be presented to each nominated volunteer.
Last year, a total of 16 individuals were acknowledged during the ceremony.
Complimentary tickets for community volunteers are now available on a first-come, first-serve basis, the municipality has announced. Tickets can also be reserved online or by calling the municipal office at 613-475-0670 ext. 210.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. on April 23 and the celebration starts at 5:30 p.m. with remarks, light refreshments and then award presentations.
The ceremony also coincides with National Volunteer Week.
