A previously targeted May 3 move-in date for residents of Northumberland County’s new Golden Plough Lodge (GPL) long-term care home is being “adjusted.”
In a brief release Friday, Northumberland County stated that following a recently productive virtual tour with the Ministry of Long-Term Care as part of the ministry’s licensing and approvals process, that work continues at the facility to address all final operation readiness requirements.
“Project teams are actively addressing items that came forward through the ministry review to ensure all regulatory requirements and standards are met prior to the next step in the approvals process: The in-person ministry inspection,” reads the county’s release.
“Given the co-ordination required across multiple partners to complete this work and arrange for the inspection – including ministry officials, contractors, GPL and county staff and relocation specialists – the previously targeted May 3 move-in date will be adjusted.”
As previously reported back in March, Northumberland County announced it was entering the final phase of preparations to open the new 180-bed long-term care home and a May 3 tentative target move-in date. However, back then, officials also noted that the timeline was ultimately dependent on final ministry approvals and completion of all operational readiness requirements.
“Northumberland County is working closely with all partners to complete remaining requirements and confirm an updated transition timeline,” said the county, on Friday, April 10, 2026. “The county looks forward to sharing an official move-in date as soon as this is confirmed, following the ministry inspection taking place in the near future.
“We look forward to welcoming residents home and staff to their new workplace as this next phase is completed.”
MBC reached out to Northumberland County with inquiries surrounding potential delays and clarity around a revised move-in date Friday and a spokesperson reiterated what was detailed in the release.
