A Belleville man has been arrested after police say they followed up on a report of about $20,000 worth of items stolen from a community organization’s storage unit.
According to the Belleville Police Service, on April 9, 2026, police responded to a “community organization” in the city’s east end after a break-and-enter report.
“Employees reported arriving at work to find that the locks on their storage unit had been cut and approximately $20,000 worth of items were stolen,” said police.
After reviewing surveillance footage, police said they observed a man allegedly entering the property just after 2 a.m. and was seen “inspecting storage units before leaving shortly afterward.”
Then, at about 4:10 a.m., the same individual returned with another man carrying an empty wagon – the video also showed one of the men cutting locks on the storage units while both surveyed the area, said police.
“At approximately 4:30 a.m., both men were observed leaving the property, carrying tools in the wagon,” said police, adding that officers were able to identify one suspect from the footage.
On April 10, at about 3:50 p.m., the service said police executed a warrant in the east end of the city with help from the emergency response unit in connection with their investigation.
As a result of the probe, police said a 38-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, break, enter dwelling house – commit an indictable offence, mischief under $5,000, theft over $5,000, and failure to comply with a probation order.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The recovered property is being returned to its rightful owners, reported police, while adding the investigation is still ongoing.
Police are asking anyone with information relating to this probe to reach out to the service at 613-966-0882 or Crime Stoppers, which is anonymous option.
