A sold-out crowd is expected to gather May 14 for the 10th annual Cornerstone Women’s Day Luncheon, an event that continues to grow as both a fundraiser and a platform for raising awareness around gender-based violence.
Hosted by Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre, the luncheon will take place at the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre and will feature guest speaker Brandi Leifso, founder of Evio Beauty, who will share her lived experience and message of resilience.
While tickets are no longer available, Executive Director Nancy Johnston says there are still meaningful ways for the community to get involved.
Johnston says the silent auction is a critical part of the fundraiser, helping support programs and services for women and children experiencing violence.
Beyond fundraising, the event is designed to create space for important conversations within the community.
She says those conversations help shift power back to survivors, reinforcing that they are supported and heard.
Cornerstone provides a range of services including emergency shelter, outreach and prevention-focused education work that relies heavily on community backing.
As presenting sponsor, Darryl Goodall with Part Time CFO Services says supporting Cornerstone is an important part of giving back locally.
Goodall says that broader approach is key to supporting families and preventing violence.
Organizers say anyone interested in contributing to the silent auction can contact Cayne Fordham at cfordham@cornerstonenorthumberland.ca.
They add that continued community support remains essential as demand for services continues to grow and that every conversation, every donation and every show of support helps ensure those impacted by violence are seen, heard and supported.
