The Children’s Safety Village in Belleville is launching a new monthly program aimed at helping older adults stay safe online and protect themselves from fraud.
The Seniors Safety Program: Online and Financial Literacy plus Fraud Prevention is designed to support seniors as more everyday services move online, including banking, payments, and communication.
Organizers say the free program will help participants identify common scams, protect personal and financial information, build confidence using digital tools, and know what steps to take if they suspect fraud.
Executive Director Rachelle Baldock says while the organization is best known for its work with children, safety education should be available for all ages.
The program will run on the first Wednesday of every month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., beginning May 6th, at the Safety Village on South John Street in Belleville.
Belleville Police Service will provide a different monthly theme related to fraud prevention and financial literacy, giving participants the chance to ask questions and gain practical advice.
The initiative is funded in part through the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program and is being delivered in partnership with TD Bank and Belleville Police Service.
Organizers say the goal is simple: prevention through education and helping seniors feel confident, informed, and protected in today’s digital world.
