Smile Cookies are returning to Tim Hortons in Brighton from April 27 to May 3, with every cookie sold helping support the Sunny Days Group Program.
Sunny Days is a Brighton-based not-for-profit organization that provides day programming and community support for adults with disabilities, helping members build independence, social connection and meaningful routines.
Program Lead Angel Harrington tells us more.
According to Chair Joann Dunkley, the organization serves residents from across the region, including Cobourg, Port Hope and Belleville, and relies heavily on fundraising because it does not receive government funding.
Dunkley says this year’s Smile Cookie campaign gives residents several ways to help.
That includes decorating cookies, volunteering during the campaign, helping at the Brighton Speedway fundraiser and supporting Music in the Park events.
Businesses are also encouraged to place bulk orders using pre-order sheets and knowing many seniors will want to take part but may not drive, they’ve got a plan for that too.
Dunkley shared that funds raised could support expanded daytime programming or help purchase an accessible wheelchair van – something the program currently does not have.
She says Tim Hortons is hoping to exceed $10,000 in cookie sales this year.
Dunkley encourages everyone to grab a cookie or a dozen, bring a friend and help support a small local program making a big impact.
