Belleville police say a prohibited driver is facing multiple charges after officers responded to suspicious activity involving two vehicles on North Front Street.
Police say the call came in Tuesday night around 10:40 p.m. after reports that two vehicles were seen switching licence plates in a parking lot.
Officers located both vehicles, each displaying the same licence plate, and conducted traffic stops.
During the investigation, police determined the male driver was prohibited from operating a vehicle. Officers also located methamphetamine in his possession.
A 55-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with operation while prohibited, possession of methamphetamine, failing to comply with a release order, and several Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act offences, including driving under suspension and operating without insurance.
He was held for a bail hearing.
Police say the female driver was issued a Provincial Offence Notice for using a plate not authorized for the vehicle.
Earlier in the day, officers also responded to a neighbour dispute in the city’s west end.
Police say a verbal argument between two households escalated when a man allegedly charged at a neighbour and a woman swung an object.
A 41-year-old Belleville woman was charged with assault with a weapon, while a 40-year-old Belleville man was charged with failing to comply with probation conditions.
Both were released with future court dates in July.
