The Ontario government says it is investing 1.6 billion dollars in 79 school construction projects across the province, creating more than 29,000 new student spaces and over 1,900 licensed child care spaces.
The funding will support new school builds, permanent additions, renovations, and retrofits in growing communities across Ontario through the province’s Capital Priorities program.
Education Minister Paul Calandra says student success starts with having the right environment to learn, adding that modern classrooms help prepare students for stable, in demand careers.
The province says the projects are part of Ontario’s broader commitment to provide more than 22 billion dollars over 10 years for new school construction, renewals, and improvements.
In addition to the 67 projects approved through 1.3 billion dollars in support for 2025 and 2026, the province says another 12 priority projects are moving ahead through nearly 300 million dollars in additional funding for 2026 and 2027.
Ontario also continues to provide 1.4 billion dollars this school year for school boards to renew and improve existing schools.
The government says the recently introduced Putting Student Achievement First Act would create stronger accountability and give the ministry more authority to intervene when boards are unable to deliver projects in the best interests of students and educators.
Officials say the goal is to ensure projects are completed on time and focused on supporting long-term student success across the province.
