A search and rescue training exercise is continuing in Trenton, says 8 Wing/CFB Trenton.
In a recent public service announcement, the Department of National Defence said 424 Squadron from Trenton is hosting and conducting a joint search and rescue (SAR) exercise in the Trenton SAR region from Monday, May 4 to Friday, May 8 as part of “TIGEREX.”
“These types of exercises provide realistic training scenarios for our dedicated search and rescue crews ensuring that we are ready to quickly respond to any type of incident to help save lives,” said the DND.
The exercise will see 424 Squadron, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), Canadian Coast Guard, OPP, Civil Aviation Search and Rescue Association (CASARA), and international partners, including United States Coast Guard, practice realistic overland and overwater SAR scenarios with a focus on interoperability and co-ordination between air and surface-based assets, reads the announcement.
The exercise is taking place over both mixed terrain and airspace and will include night operations in Trenton and the Lake Ontario area.
“The intent of the exercise is to strengthen interoperability, communication and co-ordination between 424 Squadron and partnered local, provincial, national and international rescue organizations through a realistic joint SAR exercise based out of 8 Wing Trenton,” said officials.
