A Belleville man is facing a slew of weapons-related charges after police say they responded to a report of a man allegedly outside a residence with a firearm.
According to the Belleville Police Service, on Saturday, May 9, at about 10:21 p.m., police responded to a report of an altercation involving a firearm in the city’s east end.
“It was reported that a male was outside a residence in possession of a firearm and had pointed it while attempting to get the complainant to open the door,” said police.
After arriving on scene, police said they located a man and arrested him without incident and officers allegedly seized a 9mm handgun and magazine with eight rounds.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 27-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, breach of firearm regulation – transport firearm, careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and pointing a firearm.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
