If you’re looking to toss your hat into the ring for the upcoming October 2026 municipal election, there’s a free training session in the works for potential candidates in Northumberland happening later this week.
Whether you’re looking at running or getting involved in another way – including registering as a third-party advertiser – in any Northumberland community, area municipalities say the training session can be a big help.
The free training session is being offered by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and is described as an informative session aimed at offering a clear overview of the rules, responsibilities and requirements associated with participating in the Oct. 26 election. The goal is to help attendees feel confident and prepared, according to officials.
The training session is in the works for this Thursday, May 14 with both in-person and virtual options at Northumberland County council chambers (555 Courthouse Rd., Cobourg.)
A recent advisory states there will be a formal presentation component running for about an hour, followed by a 30-minute question-and-answer period.
For those attending in-person, the gathering will also be a chance to connect with county and municipal representatives who will be available to answer questions and delve into community-specific election information for all seven member municipalities.
The session runs Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
If you’re looking to connect virtually, that information is accessible online.
