Here’s a quick snapshot of what’s going on in Brighton and the surrounding areas over the next 48 hours.
THURSDAY, MAY 21:
DONATIONS FOR BRIGHTON CURLING CLUB GARAGE SALE: There’s still time to drop off some unwanted but still good, usable items to help out the Brighton and District Curling Club from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today. The fundraising garage sale happens this weekend Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to noon and helps raise monies to keep costs down for people looking to learn the sport of curling. There’s a list of what is accepted for donations and what isn’t via the club’s Facebook page.
BELLEVILLE FARMERS’ MARKET: Hosted at 15 Market Sq., Belleville, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
BUSY BEES: Hosted at The Brighton Public Library from 10 to 10:30 a.m., this is a chance for caregivers and babies to explore sensory activities in a relaxed program.
SONG AND STORYHOUR: Hosted at BPL from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Join Terry and Penny for sing-alongs and stories. No registration is needed.
PROM FLOWERS WORKSHOP: ENSS students are invited to join Penny and Alyssa at the Brighton library to learn how to craft a corsage of boutonniere that will never wilt. Registration is needed for this event. The workshop is being hosted from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
TWEEN SCENE: Geared for ages 11 to 14 at the Brighton Public Library, youth can drop in for snacks, games and crafts or just to hang out. The fun runs from 3 to 4 p.m.
MILLENNIAL CRAFT NIGHT: Join the Trenton library for some for a nostalgic throwback to the after-school magic of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. Registration is needed for this event, which runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
FRIDAY, MAY 22:
TODDLER DANCE PARTY: Swing by the Trenton library for a lively toddler dance party where class kids’ songs are reimagined as fun techno beats and more, making for an exciting atmosphere for litter movers, say organizers. The fun also includes glow-in-the-dark decorations and accessories. Geared for kids up to age 4 and being hosted in the multi-purpose room from 10 to 11 a.m.
QUINTE WEST POP-UPS: Pop-up season continues at Centennial Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Swing by to meet and shop the vendors or for some eats and games.
PUZZLE SWAP: bring you gently used puzzles and swap them for something new at the Trenton library from 2 to 3:30 p.m. You can also meet fellow puzzle enthusiasts, exchange puzzles of all sizes and find your next challenge. No registration is needed and it’s free to attend from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
ENSS PROM PARADE: Grads will depart at about 4 p.m. from the Fellowship Christian Reformed Church and travel down Main and Dundas before ending at Terry Fox Drive. The parade is expected to last an hour to an hour-and-a-half. For the best viewing, stick to the south side of Main and Dundas streets.
OPEN MIC AT THE GRAND MAPLE: Hosted from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Grand Maple Event Centre in Hastings.
LOCAL SPORTS: Support our teams!
The Brighton Bandits 15 and under teams hit the diamonds for practice from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at King Edward tonight. Games start next week.
And Endless Summer, the world’s biggest Long Drive event, has announced the return and an expansion of its military long drive championship in partnership with the Canadian Armed Forces this year.
Endless Summer is set for June 25 and 25 at the Trillium Wood Golf Club in Belleville.
