The Peterborough-Northumberland MS Walk is set to return to Port Hope later this month as communities across the region come together to support Canadians living with multiple sclerosis.
The annual event takes place Sunday, May 31 at Memorial Park and the Bandshell in Port Hope with organizers inviting residents from across Northumberland and Peterborough areas to participate.
According to MS Canada, the walk helps raise awareness, fund research and support programs for the more than 90 thousand Canadians living with multiple sclerosis. Organizers say the event is about more than fundraising, describing it as an opportunity to build community connections and support those affected by the disease.
Participants can complete the five kilometre route in person or take part virtually from anywhere in Canada.
Event check in begins at 10 a.m. with opening ceremonies scheduled for 11 a.m. at Memorial Park and Bandshell located at 44 Queen Street in Port Hope.
The walk is one of many MS Walk events being held across Ontario and Canada this spring. Funds raised support research efforts, advocacy work and programs designed to improve quality of life for people living with multiple sclerosis.
Organizers say residents are encouraged to register, donate or support local participants and teams taking part in the event.
More information, including registration and donation details, is available through the MS Walk website.
