If you’re planning to visit Sandbanks Provincial Park this weekend, expect an increase in police enforcement, says Prince Edward County OPP.
Police said they are ramping up enforcement for “skip weekend” at the park now through to Sunday, May 31.
“This event traditionally attracts a large number of high school students and officers will have a strong presence throughout the weekend to ensure public safety,” said OPP.
Police also said that officers will be strictly enforcing:
- Underage drinking offences under the Liquor Licence and Control Act.
- Open liquor and public intoxication violations.
- Impaired driving.
- Graduated licensing system (G1/G2) conditions, including the zero-alcohol requirement for G2 drivers.
As always, police are reminding people that these offences can lead to charges, roadside and licence suspensions and vehicles being impounded.
Police are urging people to make safe and responsible choices this weekend by planning for a sober ride home, looking out for friends, staying safe near the water and following park rules and respecting other visitors.
Prince Edward County OPP also said work continues in partnership with park staff and emergency services to ensure a safe weekend for all.
