YMCA Northumberland is once again preparing to bring plenty of colour, energy and community spirit to Cobourg’s waterfront with the return of the Rainbow Run on Sunday, June 7.
Now entering its fourth year, the annual event serves as a kickoff to Pride Month celebrations across Northumberland while also raising funds for the YMCA Northumberland Strong Communities Campaign.
Participants can choose between a 2.5 kilometre or five kilometre run or walk, with organizers encouraging residents, families and even pets to take part.
Director of Marketing and Philanthropy Kathryn Harrison says this year’s event will feature several new additions thanks to a partnership with Northumberland Pride.
One of the new attractions includes a free Bubble Dash for children and “kids at heart,” featuring bubbles, colourful activities and family friendly fun before the main run begins.
Harrison says the Rainbow Run reflects the YMCA’s larger commitment to inclusion and belonging throughout the community.
Registration for the Rainbow Run opens at 8:30 a.m. June 1 with the event beginning at 9:30 a.m. along the Cobourg waterfront.
Meanwhile, YMCA Northumberland is also partnering with the Community Development Council Quinte for a free seniors focused event called Silver Screamers on June 8.
The event includes a movie screening, buffet lunch at the YMCA and afternoon activities for seniors.
More information and registration details for the Rainbow Run can be found at YMCA Northumberland Rainbow Run and additional details about the Silver Screamers can be found at Silver Screamers event information.
