From a personal watercraft operator being charged with impaired driving, to assault and mischief calls, Northumberland OPP have been busy recently.
Here is your latest rundown from Northumberland OPP.
WATERCRAFT OPERATOR CHARGED:
On May 26, 2026, shortly before 5 p.m., OPP said emergency services responded to a report of a single operator of a personal watercraft who had fallen into the water and could not be located on Rice Lake.
Local residents recovered the watercraft and continued efforts to locate the operator, who was later found on land in the Township of Hamilton and transported to a local hospital, said police.
After speaking with the individual, officers said they initiated an impaired operation investigation, which resulted in the person being taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 56-year-old Bewdley resident has been charged with impaired operation – alcohol and drugs. The accused is due in Cobourg court in July.
On May 29, 2026, at about 3 a.m., police and fire services responded to a report of a vehicle fire Runnalls Road and 5th Line area in the Municipality of Port Hope.
After speaking with the uninjured driver of the pick-up truck, officers initiated an impaired operation investigation, said police, adding the individual was then taken into custody and sent to a nearby detachment for further testing.
As a result of the probe, police said a 49-year-old Port Hope resident was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus.) The accused will appear in Cobourg court in July.
Police added that a 90-day licence suspension was also issued, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
YOUTH CHARGED WITH ASSAULT:
On May 25, 2026, shortly after 8 p.m., officers said they received a complaint about a young person causing damage to a residence on County Road 50 in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
A chemical irritant spray is believed to have been used during the altercation at the location, said investigators.
While the individual wasn’t present when police arrived on scene, officers said their investigation led to a suspect later being identified, and on May 27, one person was taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 16-year-old Trent Hills male was charged with mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property, and assault with a weapon.
The accused is due in Cobourg court in July and cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
MISCHIEF, CAUSING A DISTURBANCE CHARGES:
On May 28, 2026, at about 9:40 p.m., police said they received a complaint that a person had caused damage to a vehicle outside a residence on Front Street East in the Municipality of Trent Hills.
Officers attended and later found the individual, which led to a 22-year-old Trent Hills resident taken into custody and charged with two counts of mischief – destroys or damages property, and causing a disturbance.
