Police say a Belleville man with no fixed address is facing arson charges after a fire earlier this week.
According to the Belleville Police Service, on Monday, June 1, at about 8:17 p.m., emergency crews responded to the Moira Street West and Wallbridge Crescent area for a fire call.
“It was reported that a male was behaving erratically in the area and uttering threats before setting a vehicle on fire under a carport, which subsequently caused the residence to catch fire, with addition damage caused to a neighbouring home,” said police.
Police said the accused man was found nearby and placed under arrest.
As a result of the investigation, police said a 38-year-old Belleville man with no fixed address was charged with two counts of arson – disregard for human life, three counts of arson – damage to property, mischief endangering life, uttering threats – damage property, uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm, and breach of recognizance.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
Police said no injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, in a brief update from Belleville Fire and Emergency Services, officials said the fire involved two vehicles and a carport/garage, which spread to two separate nearby homes.
The service also said BPS had taken over the ongoing investigation, and no other details would be released.
