Residents considering a run for Quinte West council, mayor, or a local school board position this fall will have an opportunity to learn more about the process at a free candidate information session later this month.
The City of Quinte West is partnering with the City of Belleville and Prince Edward County to host a joint municipal candidate information session on June 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre in Belleville.
The event is open to prospective candidates and any residents interested in learning more about municipal government and the upcoming election.
Staff from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing’s Eastern Municipal Services Office will provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities of elected officials, including mayors, councillors, and school board trustees. The presentation will also cover legislative requirements and eligibility rules for candidates.
Clerk’s staff from Quinte West, Belleville, and Prince Edward County will be on hand to answer municipality-specific questions related to nominations, election procedures, and local requirements.
The information session comes as nomination papers are now being accepted ahead of Ontario’s municipal elections on October 26.
Municipal officials say the session is intended to help residents better understand what is involved in serving in elected office and the responsibilities that come with representing their communities.
The event is free to attend and no advance registration is required.
Organizers encourage anyone considering a campaign, whether for council, mayor, or school board, to attend and learn more before the nomination deadline later this summer.
