The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation is celebrating a $21,000 contribution from the Gay Lea Foundation in support of breast cancer screening services at the new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital.
The funding helped support the Foundation’s successful $1 million campaign to purchase a state-of-the-art mammography machine for the new hospital.
Foundation Executive Director Shannon Coull said the investment will help ensure residents continue to have access to high-quality diagnostic care close to home.
The Gay Lea Foundation’s Community Impact Grants program supports projects that strengthen health and wellness while helping build resilient rural communities across Ontario.
Officials say the new mammography equipment will provide improved imaging technology, support earlier detection of breast cancer, and enhance the patient experience.
Lisa Pond, Director of the Gay Lea Foundation, said access to quality health care is essential to maintaining strong rural communities and noted the project aligns closely with the Foundation’s commitment to supporting rural Ontario.
Quinte Health Diagnostic Imaging Program Manager Tammy Robson said local access to mammography services is critical because early detection remains one of the most effective tools in improving outcomes for breast cancer patients.
The contribution is part of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s broader Back the Build campaign, which continues to raise funds for equipment and enhancements at the new hospital.
Foundation chair Nancy Parks said the donation reflects the strong support that continues to come from Prince Edward County’s agricultural and rural communities.
