June is shaping up to be a busy month at the Brighton Public Library, with film screenings, live theatre, youth programming and summer reading initiatives all on the calendar.
CEO Heather Ratz says the library is recognizing both Pride Month and National Indigenous History Month through a series of free National Film Board screenings.
The Indigenous film screenings are scheduled for June 16, while Pride-themed screenings are planned for June 19 and June 23. Ratz says the National Film Board’s support helps libraries offer these programs free of charge and often leads to meaningful discussions among attendees.
The library is also hosting a staged reading of My Brain is a Comedy on June 11.
For younger residents, the library’s popular Tween Scene program continues Thursdays from 3 to 4 p.m., offering games, crafts, snacks and a place to connect with friends.
Summer reading programs are also getting set to return.
The TD Summer Reading Club officially launches June 19 and encourages children to continue reading throughout the summer while earning prizes and participating in library activities.
Ratz says whether residents attend a film screening, staged reading, reading program or simply stop by to browse the shelves, the library continues to provide opportunities for people to learn, connect and spend time together in the community.
