A 32-year-old Brighton man is facing multiple charges following an incident in Belleville that began with a verbal dispute and led to an impaired driving investigation.
Belleville Police say officers observed a man involved in a dispute with several other individuals at approximately 2:55 a.m. on June 6.
According to police, officers began investigating when the man entered a vehicle and attempted to leave the area. Police were able to stop the vehicle and directed the driver to exit.
Investigators allege the driver displayed signs of alcohol impairment and was placed under arrest.
Police further allege the accused resisted officers during the arrest and refused to provide identification. While in custody, the individual is also alleged to have uttered threats toward police officers.
As a result of the investigation, the Brighton resident was charged with failure or refusal to comply with a demand, operation while impaired by alcohol, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, resisting a peace officer, and obstructing a peace officer.
The accused was held for a bail hearing.
As with all criminal charges, the allegations have not been proven in court.
Belleville Police continue to remind motorists that impaired driving remains a serious public safety concern and encourage residents to report suspected impaired drivers to police.
