According to Belleville Police, a Hamilton resident is facing a charge following an intimate partner violence investigation in the city.
Police say officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute at approximately 9:43 p.m. on June 9.
According to police, information received indicated a woman had been choked during the incident.
Officers attended the scene and spoke with both parties involved before launching an investigation.
As a result, police charged a 24-year-old Hamilton man with assault involving an intimate partner.
Police say the accused was later released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in July.
Police agencies across Ontario continue to emphasize that intimate partner violence can take many forms, including physical, emotional, psychological and financial abuse.
Anyone experiencing intimate partner violence is encouraged to seek assistance through police, victim services or local support agencies.
The charge has not been tested in court.
