The City of Quinte West is asking developers and non-profit organizations to help envision the future of a large piece of surplus land that could become a new mixed-income residential neighbourhood.
The city has issued a Request for Information seeking feedback on development opportunities for a 13-hectare parcel located north of downtown Trenton and west of the North Murray Industrial Park.
In March, Quinte West council declared the vacant property surplus and amended its Official Plan designation to allow low and medium-density residential development.
The city is now looking for ideas that could support affordable housing, sustainable growth and a diverse mix of housing options.
The Request for Information asks participants to provide potential development concepts, identify opportunities for partnerships between private developers and non-profit housing organizations, and suggest ways the municipality could help support affordable housing initiatives on the site.
“This Request for Information represents an important first step in shaping the future of this site,” said Brian Jardine, Director of Planning and Development Services.
“The City is inviting developers and non-profit organizations to bring forward innovative ideas that support affordable and mixed-income housing and help create lasting benefits for the community.”
Quinte West says the information gathered through the process will help staff better understand the possibilities for the property before moving ahead with a formal Request for Proposals.
Officials hope the project will encourage the development of affordable, inclusive and sustainable housing while supporting the city’s long-term growth objectives.
The city says the feedback received will play an important role in determining how the property is marketed and developed in the future.
Developers and organizations interested in participating have until July 23 to submit their responses. More information is available through the City of Quinte West’s bidding portal and public engagement website.
