A Belleville man is facing charges after a reported stabbing that left another man seriously injured.
Belleville police say officers were called to an apartment complex on Sidney Street shortly after 5:25 a.m. on June 16 following reports that a man had been stabbed at his residence.
When officers arrived, they located the victim suffering from stab-related injuries. According to police, the victim reported that an individual entered the residence through a bedroom window and stabbed him with a knife while he was asleep.
The victim was transported to hospital with serious injuries.
During the investigation, officers learned that earlier that same night, police had received a separate report from another man who said his keys had been stolen by the same individual later identified as the stabbing victim’s alleged attacker.
Police say officers were initially unable to locate the suspect. A short time later, however, the individual was found walking on Sidney Street and was arrested without incident.
As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old from Belleville has been charged with aggravated assault and break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence.
The charges have not been tested in court.
