Cobourg will once again play host to one of Canada’s most recognizable television productions when Murdoch Mysteries returns to town for two days of filming this week.
The CBC series is scheduled to film in Cobourg on June 24 and 25, using several well-known local locations including Victoria Hall, Victoria Park, the Cobourg Conservation Area and parts of the downtown core.
Filming begins June 24 at Victoria Hall, where both interior and exterior scenes will be shot. Town officials note the production includes an exterior scene involving a prop firearm. The prop will be drawn and “fired,” although no sound effects will be used during filming.
Additional filming locations on June 25 include the Cobourg Conservation Area, 202 Church Street, Victoria Park and a private laneway near King Street East. Some increased lighting and production-related noise may occur during evening filming hours.
The Town says there will be no full road closures; however, intermittent traffic stoppages will be in place and managed by the Cobourg Police Service. Delays are expected around George Street, King Street West, Third Street and portions of Church Street and King Street East during filming periods.
Town officials emphasize that downtown businesses, municipal facilities and the Art Gallery of Northumberland will remain open and accessible. The regularly scheduled council meeting at Victoria Hall on June 24 will also proceed as planned.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to support local businesses while enjoying the opportunity to watch a major television production at work.
Filming schedules remain subject to change based on production requirements and weather conditions.
