Lakelands Public Health has released its 2025 Annual Report, marking the first full year of operations following the merger of the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit and Peterborough Public Health.
The merger took effect on January 1, 2025, creating a single public health organization serving approximately 336,865 residents across 20 municipalities and three First Nation communities, including Northumberland County.
Officials say much of the past year focused on bringing together staff, programs, systems and services while continuing to deliver essential public health programs across the region.
Medical Officer of Health and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Thomas Piggott says the organization’s first year exceeded expectations thanks to support from staff, the Board of Health and the provincial government.
The report highlights efforts to harmonize policies and procedures, modernize technology systems and strengthen internal operations while maintaining continuity of service for residents.
It also outlines several key public health achievements in 2025. According to the report, Lakelands Public Health distributed more than 147,000 vaccines to healthcare professionals, screened 8,466 students through dental programs, distributed 2,936 naloxone kits, supported 443 families through home visiting programs and managed 224 outbreaks.
Board of Health Chair Ron Black says the report reflects both the accomplishments of the newly merged organization and its commitment to protecting and promoting health across the region.
Officials say partnerships with municipalities, healthcare providers, schools, Indigenous communities and social service agencies remained central to addressing complex health challenges throughout the year.
The full 2025 Annual Report is available through the Lakelands Public Health website.
