Quinte West OPP have charged two local motorists with impaired driving following separate investigations earlier this month.
The first arrest occurred at about 1:15 a.m. on June 19 after officers stopped a vehicle on Hamilton Road. Following a roadside screening test and further testing at the detachment, a 33-year-old Quinte West man was charged with impaired operation, operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and several provincial offences.
Those additional charges include speeding, driving with a G1 licence without a qualified driver, driving during prohibited hours for a G1 licence holder, novice driver with a blood alcohol concentration above zero, having liquor readily available, failing to surrender a vehicle permit and failing to produce proof of insurance.
A second investigation began shortly after 12:30 p.m. on June 21 after officers responded to a traffic complaint involving a vehicle on Campbell Street in Trenton.
A 31-year-old Quinte West man was arrested and charged with impaired operation, operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and driving with an open container of liquor.
Both accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Belleville court on July 30.
In each case, the driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
The OPP reminds the public that anyone who suspects an impaired driver should call 9-1-1 immediately.
