An 80-year-old Belleville resident is facing multiple charges following an impaired driving investigation stemming from a collision in Quinte West.
The Quinte West OPP says officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Highway 2 and Tripp Boulevard at approximately 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.
During the investigation, officers suspected one of the drivers involved was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and taken to the Quinte West OPP detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, the Belleville driver has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams, driving while under suspension, and careless driving.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on August 20.
In addition to the criminal charges, the driver’s licence was administratively suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Quinte West OPP continue to remind motorists that impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of preventable collisions. Anyone who suspects someone is driving while impaired is urged to call 9-1-1 immediately.
