Belleville Police laid several charges following three unrelated investigations over a 24-hour period that included an alleged weapons incident, threats at a rooming house and a family dispute.
The most serious incident began just after noon Tuesday when officers responded to a tenant dispute at a residence in the city’s west end.
Police allege a 43-year-old Belleville man yelled at two residents, spat at one of them and threw fragments of a broken compact disc toward them before retreating inside his residence.
Officers returned later that afternoon after the same individual repeatedly contacted police dispatch. During the follow-up investigation, police allege the man threatened the same two residents while pointing an imitation firearm at one of them and was believed to be carrying a knife.
He was arrested without incident and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, using an imitation firearm while committing an offence, assault with a weapon, assault, two counts of uttering threats and public mischief. He was held for a bail hearing.
Later Tuesday evening, police responded to a dispute at a west-end rooming house. A 51-year-old Belleville man was arrested after allegedly making repeated threats toward other occupants despite court-ordered conditions prohibiting contact. He faces three counts each of uttering threats and failing to comply with an undertaking and was also held for bail.
Shortly after midnight Wednesday, officers investigated a family dispute in the city’s north end. Police allege a 22-year-old Belleville woman assaulted her mother, causing minor injuries. She was charged with assault and released on an undertaking with a court appearance scheduled for October.
