A 47 year old Belleville man is facing weapons charges after police investigated an incident involving a firearm in the city’s east end.
Belleville Police say officers responded at about 9:30 p.m. on July 9 after receiving reports of an individual in possession of a firearm.
According to investigators, two people were involved in a physical altercation when a third man allegedly intervened and pointed a firearm at them. Police say all three individuals fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.
Investigators reviewed surveillance video and say it showed the suspect in possession of a firearm before fleeing. Officers located and arrested a 47 year old Belleville man with no fixed address a short distance away. Police were unable to recover the firearm.
The accused is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and pointing a firearm. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
The charges have not been proven in court.
