Caregivers, older adults and community members across Northumberland will have a new opportunity to access practical information, local resources and social connections through a free monthly speaker series launching in Cobourg.
The Ontario Health Team of Northumberland, in collaboration with St. Peter’s Anglican Church, is introducing the Caregiver Speaker and Social Hour Series beginning September 17.
Sessions will be held on the third Thursday of each month at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, located at 240 College Street in Cobourg.
Each session will feature a presentation from a local subject matter expert or community partner from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., followed by a social hour from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Participants will have an opportunity to connect with others who may be navigating similar experiences.
Topics throughout the series will include caregiver wellness and mental health, senior care options, healthy aging, emergency preparedness, changes in behaviour, and financial and legal planning.
The first session, on September 17, is titled “Am I a Caregiver? Understanding the Caregiver Journey.”
Future sessions will cover caregiver wellness, navigating senior care, staying independent while aging, emergency planning, understanding changes in behaviour, and financial, legal and estate considerations.
The January session will feature a panel with local paramedics, police and fire representatives discussing emergency planning for older adults and caregivers.
The series is free and open to caregivers, older adults and community members from across Northumberland, but advance registration is required.
More information and registration details are available through the Ontario Health Team of Northumberland.
