If you’ve never had a chance to try curling and you’re in the Brighton region you’re in luck.
The Brighton Curling Club is returning with their popular Adult Learn to Curl program which is returning this fall, offering beginners a chance to learn the fundamentals of the sport in a fun, relaxed setting.
Suzanne Scanlon is the Secretary for the Club and she says that the organization has seen over 60 years of curling instruction and competition and they’re still going strong.
Sessions will run Monday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m., Oct. 19 through Dec. 14. Over nine weeks, participants will learn different delivery techniques, sweeping, curling etiquette and basic game strategy, with plenty of opportunities to get on the ice and play a few games.
Suzanne stresses the fact that experience doesn’t matter as there are sessions for rookies as well as more seasoned curlers with the rookie bonspiel taking place in March.
There are a total of 12 bonspiels taking place throughout the season for regular club members so there are plenty of opportunities for the competitive side in you to shine.
Five Saturday evening social events are planned for the season which take you off the ice and into the company of your fellow members which Suzanne says is a big part of the overall experience.
The fees you pay depend on how many leagues you decide to join and that will depend on your skill level and how much time you want to spend at the rink.
Online registration opens this Saturday September 12 at 8 am to Sunday September 20 at 11:59 pm here at www.BrightonCurlingClub.ca.
