Eight people are facing cannabis-related charges after police seized more than $2.8 million worth of illicit cannabis from a grow operation on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.
The Tyendinaga Police Service began investigating the operation in August, alleging it involved a non-Indigenous criminal network. The OPP Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team was brought in to assist.
A search warrant was executed Sept. 9, resulting in the seizure of about 5,560 cannabis plants, valued at $2.78 million, along with 34 kilograms of cannabis shake, $1,880 in Canadian currency and 10 cellphones.
All eight accused face charges under the Cannabis Act related to illicit cultivation and possession for the purpose of distribution.\
