Four people are facing multiple charges after a stolen vehicle investigation led to the recovery of three stolen vehicles in Quinte West.
The Quinte West OPP says the investigation began just before 1 a.m. Monday, September 21, after receiving information about a stolen vehicle travelling eastbound on Highway 401. The vehicle was being tracked remotely by York Regional Police.
Northumberland OPP officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but police say it failed to stop and continued eastbound.
The vehicle was later located at a scrap yard on Downs Road in Quinte West. Three people were arrested at the scene while leaving the property in a separate vehicle.
Quinte West OPP and members of the Crime Unit subsequently executed a search warrant at the property.
Police say three vehicles reported stolen from the Greater Toronto Area were recovered, along with various car parts.
The accused include 48-year-old Georges Tafnkji of Scarborough, 20-year-old Bilal Khan of Cambridge, 20-year-old Raiyan Fruitwala of Toronto and a 14-year-old Toronto youth who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The three younger accused face charges including dangerous operation, vehicle theft, possession of devices and break-in instruments, and trafficking in property obtained by crime.
Tafnkji is charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
All four were held in custody for bail hearings.
The charges have not been proven in court.
