Today, an Indigenous art piece was unveiled in Memorial Park in Brighton, with Mayor Brian Ostrander on hand for the ceremony.
The installation, unveiled just in time for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Wednesday, Sept. 30, came from an idea Ostrander had while speaking with a former councillor.
Ostrander says the art piece is yet another excellent example of the commitment Brighton and the surrounding area has to staying focused on the spirit of the Treaties and what they mean to everyone in the region.
The piece, created by Indigenous artist Rick Beaver, is called Water of Life. It depicts the relationships we have with the world around us as Beaver imagines them.
Beaver goes on to say the piece represents a continuing reminder of the ongoing journey that is Truth and Reconciliation.
Aidan Corbett from Alderville First Nation was also on hand to present the welcoming song.
