A new chapter in Brighton hockey begins tonight as the Brighton Vikings take the ice for their inaugural home opener.
The Vikings are the newest team in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League and will host the Orangeville Blitz in the franchise’s first-ever home game.
Team owner Tony Iezzi says community support has been strong as the organization prepared for its opening night.
The expansion team was announced earlier this year and has quickly built local roots, signing area players and naming Cobourg’s Dennis Sicard as its first head coach.
Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. at King Edward Park Arena, marking the start of what the Vikings hope will become a long-standing hockey tradition in Brighton.
