Courtney Goodmurphy has called Brighton home for almost 16 years and says her longstanding connection to the community has motivated her to enter municipal politics. A wife, mother and community volunteer, Goodmurphy says she wants to help guide Brighton’s growth while preserving the welcoming character that makes the town special.
Community and Priorities
Goodmurphy says she has been interested in politics since high school, when a civics class sparked a lasting interest in government and public affairs. She later studied criminology at university, while continuing to follow the political landscape.
Her community involvement includes volunteering with Brighton Public School, coaching soccer and baseball, and working in the community, experiences she says have allowed her to meet many of Brighton’s residents and better understand the community.
With Brighton experiencing significant growth, Goodmurphy says a key priority is finding a balance between development and maintaining the town’s small-community character. She wants growth to be supportive of all community members while ensuring Brighton remains a warm, welcoming place to live.
Why Brighton
After nearly 16 years in Brighton, Goodmurphy says she is proud to call the town home. Her experiences raising a family, volunteering and connecting with residents have helped build her appreciation for the people and community spirit that define Brighton.
Goodmurphy says entering municipal politics gives her the opportunity to turn a longstanding passion for public affairs into community service and help shape Brighton’s future.
